In Commemoration of 18th Martyrdom Anniversary of Rajaee & Bahonar on August 30

TEHRAN -- August 30 marks the 18th Martyrdom anniversary of two great teachers of the Islamic Revolution, Mohammad Ali Rajaee and Mohammad Javad Bahonar, who were the two most pious and devout sons of the Islamic Revolution and committed followers of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini. 18 years ago, the vicious agents of the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) perpetrated another heinous crime which led to the martyrdom of Rajaee and Bahonar, the then president and prime minister.

The two great martyrs, who were very active in the anti-Shah campaign, stood shoulder to shoulder after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. And finally the two pious followers of the late Imam were martyred by the criminal Monafeqin (hypocrites). On their martyrdom, the late founder of the Islamic Republic said, "Mr. Rajaee and Mr Bahonar are two martyrs who, side by side, fought against the corrupt enemies.

The late martyr Rajaee once told me that he had been with Mr. Bahonar for 20 years. God destined that they leave this world together. Although bearing their Martyrdom is too hard for me, I know that they have joined God and are in peace." Martyr Rajaee, From Birth to Martyrdom Martyr Mohammad Ali Rajaee was born in the city of Qazvin in 1933. He lost his father at the age of four.

He completed his studies at the elementary school under the supervision of his elder brother. At the age of 14, he left Qazvin for Tehran, where he began to work in bazaar. He was later recruited in the Air Force, when he was 17. At that time he became familiar with the group Fadaeeyan Eslam', which carried out activities against the oppressor Pahlavi regime.

He also participated in the meetings held by late Ayatollah Taleqani. In 1953, he resigned from the Air Force and began his new career as a teacher. In 1970, he left Tehran for the city of Khansar to teach in the high schools there. Rajaee later returned to Tehran to continue his studies in the field of statistics. He was arrested and imprisoned for four years in 1973. He was released from the prison in 1978. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Rajaee was appointed as the Minister of Eduction. Later he was elected to the Islamic Consultative Assembly. In 1980, he was appointed as the prime minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran by a majority vote of the Parliament. In the same year, he was elected president by the people and appointed Bahonar as his prime minister.

He was martyred along with Bahonar when the terrorist MKO bombed his office on August 30, 1981. Martyr Bahonar's Fruitful Life Martyr Mohammad Javad Bahonar, the then Iranian prime minister and the second secretary of Islamic Republic Party, was born in the city of Kerman in 1933. He received his high school diploma in Kerman. In 1953, he went to Qom to study Islamic jurisprudence under the instruction of late Ayatollah Boroujerdi. He was also taught by late Imam Khomeini and Allameh Tabatabaee. He later started his academic studies.

He received his BA in literature, MA in education and doctorate in theology from Tehran University. Martyr Bahonar joined the Islamic-political movement led by the late Imam Khomeini in 1962. After making several speeches in Hedayat and Al-Javad mosques and Hosseinieh Ershad Islamic Institute, Bahonar was arrested by the agents of oppressor Pahlavi regime. After he was released from the prison, he was banned from delivering speeches.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Bahonar rendered services to the country in different posts. He served as a member of the Revolutionary Council, the head of the Literacy Movement, representative of Kerman in the Assembly of Experts, representative of the Revolutionary Council in the Ministry of Eduction, representative of Tehran in the Majlis, minister of education and secretary-general of the Islamic Republic Party. He also wrote several books during his fruitful life.

He was appointed as prime minister by late president Rajaee. Until his martyrdom, Bahonar made every effort to establish a system on the basis of religion and Islamic ideology. * Bahonar: I will never get tired of working * Bahonar was among the brave clerics who continued his campaign against the oppressor Pahlavi regime until the moment of the regime's downfall.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he served the nation wholeheartedly. * Martyr Rajaee was badly tortured by the Savak agents. Although he underwent great pain and suffering, he did not reveal the names of his fellow combatants fighting the oppressor Pahlavi Regime.
